Abstract:

In recent years, chitosan and its different derivatives have been extensively used in surface modification and functional finishing of textiles. In this study, wool yarns used in handmade carpet were treated with different concentrations of chitosan-poly (amidoamine) dendrimer hybrid (Ch-PAMAM) and characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), and their dyeing properties were investigated through dyeing with madder as natural dye. SEM images showed that Ch-PAMAM was almost evenly grafted on the wool surface which resulted in significant improvement in dyeing characteristics with madder. Indeed, treated wool exhibited lower optimal dyeing temperature and dyeing time and required lower amount of madder dye to achieve a desired color strength, as compared to raw wool. Moreover, due to its “bio-mordant” role, Ch-PAMAM was replaced with metal mordant and acid auxiliary in wool dyeing with natural dye. In addition, rub and light fastness of dyed treated wool was improved to some extent. The results of this study confirmed that Ch-PAMAM can be effectively used as alternative bio-mordant in eco-friendly dyeing of wool with madder dye.

Dyeing Properties and Color Fabrics Using Natural Dye and Mordant

An ecological approach has been obtained by using natural dyes and mordant for dyeing process. Fabrics dyed using myrobalan extract as natural mordants and green dye. A red color were obtained by using theses mordants. The color of dyed fabrics was investigated in CIELab L, a and b and K/S values. Finally, all dyed fabrics were tested for wash and light fastness properties as per ISO standard t...

رنگرزی نخ خامه پشمی با گل زعفران، بررسی تأثیر دندانه و اسید

This research work involves the dyeing of wool yarns with saffron petals as a source for green color. At first step woolen pile yarns treated with four different mordents, namely: tin chloride, copper sulfate, aluminum sulfate and iron(II) sulfate in acidic condition using acetic, oxalic, citric and lactic acids respectively. In this study the possibility of using saffron petals as a natural dy...

Rubia Tinctorum L. (Rubiaceae) or Madder as One of the Living Color to Dyeing Wool

The medicinal part of Rubia tinctorum is the dried root. The small yellowishgreen flowers are in loose, leafy, long-peduncled terminal or auxiliary cymes. The margin of the calyx is indistinct, 4- to 5-sectioned and has a tip that is curved inward. There are five stamens and an inferior ovary. The fruit is a black, pea-sized glabrous, smooth drupe containing two seeds. The perennial pl...

تاثیر آمونیاک قبل از رنگرزی بر رنگ پذیری و تغییر رنگ پشم رنگرزی شده با رنگزاهای طبیعی ایرانی

Ammonia is a weak base that can be used as an swelling agent on wool fibres before dyeing. In this study the pretreatment of wool with ammonia in different percent solutions (5, 10, 15, 20) is carried out, and its effect on dye-ability of wool by natural dyes such as madder, walnut shell, pomegranate peel, vine leaf, white and red onion skin, is analyzed. Also the effects of temperature, length...

A Comparative Study on Dyeing of Cotton and Silk Fabric Using Madder as a Natural Dye

Madder is considered the queen of the reds which is one of the oldest used natural dyes. In this study, madder was applied to cotton and silk fabrics by using mordants in various ways to investigate the coloring effects. Alum and copper sulphate were used as mordants not only before and after dyeing process but also during the process. The aqueous extract of the dye was applied on the scoured c...
